Monthly News Letter - August 2006

Hello all. Hot enough for you? even out here in Washington, where we live without A/C, smile at the breeze, dress in shorts 6 times a year, where the public pool cover is removed for 3 months and the dogs snooze in the sun, drive in movie is now open and we can watch between rain drops it is HOT!

I have been under the weather lately and I am going to be asking for more help please! I am in need of someone who can send out our monthly newsletters to those without email addresses. I will supply the envelopes and stamps (already purchased) and the addresses, all you have to do is print the letter, and pop it in the mail box, one less thing for me to concentrate on. Thank you!

I am having trouble concentrating. The cancer is stable still, according to my last CT scan last week. Check out my blog too nansarb.tripod.com/nansarb. But this past post chemo week has been quite painful! I have not been able to talk on the phone due to the tiredness and shortness of breath either. So I need help. We also need a good fundraiser or some grants. We need a common place (my hope is by January 1) to store our yarn, have a drop off location, meet and greet, knit together and basically our own CYC offices. If you know of anyone who owns real estate and can rent or donate us space very cheap (Since we are non profit it Will be a good tax deduction for them). An apartment would be great? Who knows lets get our creative minds together and think. We are getting so large we can even use a part time employee if we can get a salary together. I have written to local grants, Dr. Phil, Susan G, Komen foundation, The Everett Clinic foundation *(gave us money in 2005) Wal Mart, gave us money in 2006. Please give me ideas! I so appreciate this.

I am hoping to deliver items to Matthews house this week, they have shortened hours in the summer and we are playing phone tag. WE have 60 pairs of slippers, 30 animals, and playing cards. What a great project. Thank you!

We are getting in desperate need it light weight, washable, soft chemo caps. Please try to get yarn from me. It will be great to do. for those of you who have been meeting at Village Yarn and Tea Shop with Aleen (I could not attend for 2 months) she suggest their soft cotton yarns with some lovely thin yarns for a decorative touch and flair. Good work! Thank you again, Aleen for playing hostess with the mostess!

It has been suggested that we have a speaker on fibers and the differences in them. I will work on that.

September we are hoping for another pot luck if that works. Does The Everett Clinic still work for all? Is that the most convenient spot, it is free and a large room.

August 20, Sunday, we meet at Main Street Yarn from 1 to 3. Sadly we are outgrowing our space their and 2 hours is not seeming like enough time. Again, send your thoughts.

August 27, Saturday, we meet at Village yarn and Tea Shop in Shoreline from 3 to 5. I will see if we can meet 2 to 5 as requested and let you know. Remember if you buy yarn there for our projects, needles or patterns for us we get a discount.

So lets start working on back to school items, pencil holders, cell phone holders (very popular), chemo caps and then we will move onto winter caps and scarves of which I have over 100++ here at home. Any other items you can think of? Scarves are always nice. We can call around to the schools and get school colors too and get specific if you are a parent volunteer, PTA person for your children's schools. Lynnwood High is gold and black. Will work great for a fundraiser for Band and Sport activities.

Also for October we will try once again to make small kennel blankets for PAWS and other animal shelters to keep the cages warm and soft and these items need to be thicker, washable and use up your left over yarns. Colors DO NOT MATTER.chewable so knit tightly... so just use up what you have. 12x12 and 24x24 or there abouts.
